Following a year spent in Tornado Alley the tornado series sprang up like a spring storm with an eerie power and a tensely charged edge. It fuses the sublime unpredictability of nature with the intense physicality of painting.
The series of eleven tornado paintings (six shown) evokes the pull of gravity and the stunning power of nature; the light skies are meant as a counterpoint to the malevlent columns of air and debris. Movement and contrast fill the paintings, pushing them and the viewer towards a sense of rapture.
The series embraces pure passion and fury through whip lashed splashes and floods of paint, allowing the artist to evoke the tornado as a vital, ravenous entity or a cloud of dark, brooding malevolence. These spasms of nature promise a violent, sensuous dance that is in itself a thing of awe and beauty.
